We are keen on slow food both as an approved slow food retailer and enthusiastic participant in the Slow Food London Awards. Some of our customers and site visitors have been asking what slow food is, so below is a brief summary and how it fits with what we sell in the shop.

Slow Food History

Slow Food was started by Carlo Petrini and a group of activists in the 1980s with the aim of protecting regional food and farming traditions, good food, eating pleasure and a slow pace of life. In the following twenty years the movement has evolved to embrace a comprehensive approach to food that recognizes the strong connections between plate, planet, people, politics and culture. Today it is a global movement involving thousands of projects and millions of people in over 160 countries.

Their approach is based on a concept of food that is defined by three interconnected principles:

GOOD: a fresh and flavorsome seasonal diet that satisfies the senses and is part of local culture.
CLEAN: food production and consumption that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health.
FAIR: accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for small-scale producers.

Slow Food From Morley Butchers

Morley Butchers is pleased to be associated with Slow Food London as they support and highlight the growing number of quality food retailers and producers within the city which are the polar opposite of the discount and large supermarket chains.

At Morley Butchers we select the best suppliers so our customers can be confident that the meat they buy from us is not only good eating but comes from a traceable source where the animals have had a wholesome free range lifestyle, enjoyed high welfare standards and a natural diet. These traditional ways of farming  means that the animals grow slowly producing great taste and texture for consumers.

On our counter you will find a selection of the finest quality Beef, Lamb, Pork, Poultry and Game. (You can see more details about them in the different product sections of our website.)
